Kindle owners borrowed KDP Select books 295,000 times in December alone, Amazon announced today.

As you may know, Amazon Prime subscribers can freely borrow a book a month from the newly created Kindle Owners’ Lending Library. Its catalogue currently boasts 75,000 titles thanks to Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishers Select program.

From the Amazon.com News Release:

Rachel Yu is a 16-year-old author of children’s books, and she earned $6,200 from the KDP Select fund in the month of December. “It’s so cool to be part of the success of KDP Select,” said Yu. “It’s just like a library but with easier access. There’s truly no other opportunity like Amazon for self-publishing.”

Note: When the Kindle Lending Library program was announced in early November 2011, slightly more than 5000 titles were available for lending.
