Via Online Athens:

The University of Georgia formally unveiled its new special collections library Friday, and a crowd of more than 500 people liked what they saw.

The library houses UGA archives of political papers and memorabilia, film, TV and radio recordings, rare books and manuscripts and much more.

And unlike much of what’s on the UGA campus, the new Richard B. Russell Building and the special collections it holds belong to everyone, said Larry Walker, a member of the state Board of Regents and a former state legislator.

“It is the state’s library, and the state’s collections, dedicated here to the benefit of the state’s people,” said Walker, the keynote speaker at a Friday dedication ceremony for the new building off Hull Street.
